Sixth Annual Wayuu Taya Foundation Fundraising Gala in NYC

The Wayuu children were the focus of the sixth annual Wayuu Taya Foundation Gala held on June 17th at the Stephen Weiss Studio in New York City.

Throughout the event, images taken by photographer Jenny Woodman and videographer Gabriella Nunez were displayed on the walls and stage of the location. In addition, paintings created by Wayuu children, together with local artists, were displayed and sold both in silent and live auctions – to the delight and admiration of the audience.

Christie Brinkley joined RPHP’s Board of Directors in December 2008

For many years she has been involved in environmental causes, with a particular interest in radiation exposure and risk to children. She was previously a Board member of Standing for Truth About Radiation, and is a current Board member of the Global Security Institute.

Christie Brinkley has a long history with RPHP. She made appearances or sent written material on behalf of the RPHP study of Strontium-90 in baby teeth in Long Island, New Jersey, and Connecticut. As the recipient of a “Smart Cookie” award from Cookie Magazine in April 2008, she named RPHP as one of her two favorite non-profit organizations.

Christie Brinkley one of seven women honored by Cookie Magazine

They honored seven women, including Christie Brinkley, who cited the RPHP Tooth Fairy Project as one of her two favorite causes (the othe is the Global Security Institute). The other honorees were Lee Woodruff (wife of ABC correspondent Bob), actress Julia Louis-Dreyfus, Karenna Gore Schiff (daughter of Al and Tipper), Areva Martin, Kim Raver and Roni Lomeli.

In her acceptance speech, Christie asked Mr. Mangano to stand up in recognition of all the work RPHP has done. In the video she made and played to the audience of 250, she described the tooth study, and the reactors in and near Long Island that inspired her to pursue this work.
