Dalai Lama draws in the stars for Vancouver Peace Summit

In Vancouver for the Peace Summit, the Dalai Lama has been attracting a star following at many private invitation-only parties in the city to raise money for his Centre for Peace and Education.

Humanitarian celebrities, including Oprah-backed philosopher and author Eckhart Tolle and eBay founder Pierre Omidyar, were flown in by BC mining magnate Frank Guistra for a bash thrown by business tycoon Stewart Belkin and his artist wife, Shannon.

Sarah McLachlan and Emmy-winning musician Peter Buffett also arrived at the swanky event held at the Vancouver couple’s Southlands estate.

Fellow philanthropists Sir Bob Geldof, supermodel Christie Brinkley and funnyman Steve Martin are also on hot ticket guest lists.

The 9th Annual USTA Serves OPENing Gala was held at the USTA National Tennis Center in New York City. Christie Brinkley was all smiles as she arrived. She looked very patriotic in an outfit of red, white, and blue. Christie wore a white knee length skirt. Tucked into the skirt she wore an open-collar tee shirt with diagonal stripes of red, white, and blue. The white image of a polo player on his horse was emblazoned one the blue part over her chest. The opposite sleeve was also blue and had a monogram representing the US Open 2009. She wore simple stud earrings and a silver watch. Christie carried a tote bag that was white with a blue bottom and red handles.
